All Guilds Meeting - November 2015

As things get closer to 2016, another All Guilds Meeting has come and gone.  Nev'yn was the guest host for the day, filling in for Doobes.  As always, the raw and (very) cleansed chatlogs await those who may have missed the meeting.

Here's a recap of the festivities:

Guild of Linguists

KathAveara was first in line to update the crowd on GoLing business.  The website has received a revamp and refresh, and while not completely finished, it will be soon.  Those with forum accounts have had them ported over to the new forums.

There are also plans to restart the Rekorokh Deseekaytee, or the Book of Puzzles.  Each week or month (depending on interest), there would be a new word or logic puzzle relating to the Myst/D'ni universe.  Joining the Guild forums will allow members to post and suggest their own puzzle for inclusion.

Zeke365

Next up was Zeke, who thanked those involved in organizing the very successful CAVCON Awareness Party.  He talked a bit about the newly-created Developers' Hood, a place for experts to gather and explain to those interested just what goes into making and programming content for URU.  Membership in the hood is open to anyone interested. All Guilds Meeting - October 2015

It was a rather rousing All Guilds Meeting today in Kirel.  Plenty of entertainment brought to you by your fellow explorers and lots of good causes to consider.  As always, here are your raw and cleansed chatlogs for your reading enjoyment.

Here's what happened:

Cavern Tours

Zeke365 was first to talk about the return of the Cavern Tours, events that take you through the various Ages of URU while learning the history associated with each (no puzzle spoilers though).  They are due to start November 3rd

Later in the meeting, he mentioned a special Cavern Tour that will take place during the CAVCON party proceedings (see below).

Final details will be presented at the next All Guilds Meeting.  Keep checking the MOUL Events forum for more information as well!

Radio Free D'ni

AlanDJ reminded everyone that there would be a concert from Radio Free D'ni tomorrow (Sunday, October 4th).  For more details on that, you can see our news post.

RAWA v2.0 - Show Your Support

Richard Watson, better known as "RAWA" at Cyan to the Myst community, shared some recent personal news.  He has candidly explained his absence to fans.

I was diagnosed with a walnut-sized brain tumor at the end of August. I had brain surgery on Sept. 15th, and now have a very cool-looking “centipede” scar and a new nickname: “TC” (for “Titanium Cranium”). Welcome to RAWA v2.0 - a kinder, gentler, more heavily-medicated, slightly more extroverted RAWA.

To help his recovery, RAWA has made a request:

Do me a favor, please. During the Kickstarter campaign for Obduction, many of you told your stories of how the Myst series affected you. Those stories meant the world to my mom, who spent twenty years knowing I made “games”, but not knowing how much these “games” meant to so many people of all ages from all around the world. Y'all made her cry with joy many times.

Now, more than ever, those stories will help my mom, my wife, my kids, and even me. Sign that guestbook on the Caring Bridge site. Tell your stories. My family will see your stories, and all your stories really will help us all through this difficult time. Thank you, more than I can say!

Cyan...and Richard in particular...have given the Myst/URU community so much over the years (including a soon-to-be-released new game!), so we at the Guild encourage everyone who can to stop by his Caring Bridge page and leave your stories and thoughts for RAWA!

D'ni Holiday: The Great Crash

On September 18th, 2014 the primary matrix of the KI-device, known as "the Lattice", suffered a major cascade failure, leading to a subsequent event known as the "Great Crash" of its virtual processing nodes. Unable to utilize the Nexus or rely upon the KI-coordinate system from the Great Zero, travel to and from the cavern became hazardous at best. Thankfully, through dedicated efforts of several Restoration Engineers, the Lattice was restored to functionality after weeks of dedicated work. There were severe data corruption issues, however.

Both the KI-devices and Lattice were able to be restarted only at their "baseline" state, very similar to that which the DRC encountered when investigating the cavern during the first Restoration. It is unknown at this time if Victor Laxman was consulted during these repairs.

Access to Nexus and various cavern locations may now be visited with relative safety, assuming normal precautions are taken during such explorations.
